It’s going to be a HOT SUMMER! Be COOL by adding Water aerobics into your fitness routines. Water Exercises are also great for soothing sore muscles after a hard workout, burning lots of calories, and great for toning!
I have taught Water Aerobics for over 20 years and I am fancinated by the fitness and healing benefits that it offers. Anyone can do Water Aerobics! You don’t need to know how to swim and your hair won’t get wet if you don’t want it too! There are two types of Water Aerobics classes which are shallow water classes which are done in the shallow end of the pool and deep water aerobics that are done in the deep end of the pool. Some water classes are hybrid in that they do some of the water classes in the shallow and some of the class done in the deep. A good water class will use different water tools like water dumb bells and noodles which can create a variation to the class and work different muscles.
One of my favorite places that I have taught water aerobics is at a rehabilitation medical center that provided diagonosis, physical therapy and water treatment to their patients. I taught the water classes that inlcuded water arthritis, water Silver Sneakers and rehabilitation water classes for the patients. I would see patients come to a water class in a wheel chair a couple months later they are using a walker, cane or even walking!
So, try a water class to mix up your routine and give your joints a break by doing a 60 minute water aerobics class at least 2-3 times a week. You can do your water class in place of your normal cardio of walking, running or biking for a change a pace.
Now, go ahead and get in the pool to stay cool! and get a great workout!
