A research review published findings that regular physical activity may possibly protect you from severe COVID-19 and even getting infected.
From the COVID-19 and exercise findings, one researcher stated, “It’s time to consider exercise as medicine with more and more evidence proving this as facts”.
The research found that individuals who reported regular physical activity were 36% less likely to be hospitalized and 43% less likely to die if they caught COVID-19 versus people who did not exercise much. Researchers also found that individuals who followed the U.S. public health official’s recommended amount of at least 150 minutes of weekly physical activity were better protected against the virus.
However, the research findings do not consider other explanations of why exercising may be preventing COVID-19 such as social-economic status, lifestyle, virus exposure, and low-stress levels.
A note of caution to consider, another study provided research findings that if you are on the treadmill next to an individual who has COVID-19 are exercising at high intensity can emit over 132 times as many aerosols as they do at rest which can put the person next to them at risk.
