How Exercising Now Could Benefit Your Future Grandchildren

Helping to create healthier generations is another reason to exercise!

A new study found that the exercises we do today create an imprint on our cells that may be passed on to future generations.  The study also revealed that both animal and human fathers and mothers who develop diabetes, obesity, and other health problems, can be transmitted to their offspring, causing them to produce these health conditions as adults.

Researchers also found that if a mother exercises before her pregnancy, it protects their babies against developing obesity and diabetes as they grow up, even if they are not as active as their mother was. Regarding fathers who exercised, the babies were found to heal their brains more than those who were not functioning, even if the mothers did not exercise.

Another study was conducted on these results to see if these genes could be passed to their grandchildren, and it was found that those with active grandmothers revealed denser and healthier bones. The ones with inactive grandmothers began developing poor sugar control, decreasing insulin sensitivity, and showed the potential to develop diabetes.

According to the researchers, the study revealed that “Exercise had improved the metabolic health of multiple generations.” The researchers noted that this study was not done to make mothers or fathers feel bad about not exercising before having children, but the results are to give another reason to those who work out another reason why they should continue, which is to help create a healthier generation.
