5 Tips to a healthier you in 2021

1). GET A PHYSICAL! I cannot tell you how important it is to get a yearly physical. It is essential to know your health status, which can let you know if you are healthy and everything is great, or you may have some issues like your blood pressure may be a little high. Like me with my cholesterol, which tends to go up and down depending on my weight. The sooner you know if you are healthy or know your need that you may have, your doctor and trainer can help you prevent or manage many of those chronic diseases.

2). HAVE A REALISTIC MINDSET – Hopefully, many of you have had your physicals already, or you are making appointments. Suppose you have been diagnosed with a chronic condition. In that case, you should immediately recognize the seriousness of your diagnosis and start the proper preparations to prevent and eliminate this immediately! Discuss with your doctor plans to start living a healthier lifestyle which may include medications. If your symptom is preventable and you can get rid of it through diet and exercise, I would not stress taking the drug. Still, I would plan on reducing and even getting to the point where you do not need it anymore. DISCLAIMER! I AM NOT A DOCTOR! I have many years of experience working with people who have had chronic diseases such as Pre-Diabetes. They end up not taking the medications like metformin anymore because their blood sugar level went down due to their lifestyle change.

Trust me, you do not want to end up taking a bunch of medications if you do not have to. A couple of years ago, I worked in the emergency room as a Patient Service Rep registering patients. This lady came in and needed to see the doctor because she was having problems with her portal from her dialysis. I asked her if she had diabetes? And she replied, “No, she is on dialysis because she had high blood pressure for many years and took meds for it which caused her kidneys to fail.”

3). BECOME PHYSICALLY ACTIVE

– Regardless, if you are perfectly healthy, at-risk, or have a chronic disease, everyone can benefit from physical fitness! Figure out how and when you are going to start your new lifestyle. I do understand that it sometimes seems almost impossible to fit exercise into your routine, let alone trying to eat healthily! Who has the time? And I agree, trust me, having raised two daughters as a single parent working 3 jobs! I get it! But I had to figure out a plan that worked for me. So, let me ask you? Since you are too busy to exercise, are you too busy to take or continue taking medications? And in my observation, I never really seen anyone get better with medications for chronic disease? Medication is just a temporary band-aid.  Are you too busy to take insulin shots? Are you too busy to stay tired, exhausted, have low energy, and with some even constant bouts of depression?

What I say is that you have only one life, and it’s what you make it! You get one life! One body! You cannot look up to God and say, Hey, I am tired of this fat old, sick body! Can you please give me a new one? Sorry, it does not work that way!

4). EAT HEALTHIER – Food can be your best friend and keep you healthy, or food can be your worst enemy and make you unhealthy, sick, and even cause death. Find ways to eat more beneficial.

5). GET HELP – Invest in a trainer, watch fitness videos or if your gym offers free sessions with a wellness coach, take advantage of it. Ok, let us keep it accurate; many do not know what to do or where to start? I get it; that is my job! I have helped thousands of people to create an even continue living a healthier lifestyle.

In my future videos, I will give you tons of tips for creating your perfect workout, whether it’s at the gym, office, or home.

There are loads of exercise and nutrition videos on Youtube that you can get great ideas from and do them at home! If you do not have much experience in the gym, or it’s been a long time since you had a consistent routine. I would consult with people to assist you, such as a Wellness Coach, Nutritionist, or Personal Trainer.

Yes, it can be expensive to hire maybe a Personal Trainer. But you don’t have to use them forever. You can sign up for as little as 3 sessions to get a basis of what you should be doing to achieve your best you! Here is a little tip that some Personal Trainers may not want you to know or do! Record and learn the routine, machines, and workouts so you can be independent and continue doing them on your own. To me, Personal Trainers are great to get started. Still, unless you are rich, it would be costly to continue using them.
