Just 11 extra pounds can ruin healthy knees!

Just 11 extra pounds can ruin healthy knees! Research has shown over the years that being overweight can contribute to chronic health issues like diabetes and high blood pressure. Some people wonder how just a small amount of extra weight could cause severe knee issues and damage your knees, leading to pain, stiffness, and mobility issues.

A recent study revealed that being just 11 pounds overweight can ruin your health and increase your odds of knee replacement surgery and osteoarthritis. Being a former Army Veteran, I used to wonder why the military was so strict on soldiers’ weight. Being overweight in the military could get you on probation and kicked out. One of the reasons that the Army requires its soldiers to maintain a healthy weight is for them to be in good shape in case of war. The military also requires their soldiers to remain physically active by taking yearly physical activity exams.

Maybe the Army was on to something by requiring that the soldiers remain physically active and in shape, which can also lead to lower rates of obesity and chronic illness. I must admit that one of the reasons that I am physically active today after being out of the military for over 20 years. We can all learn something from the Army and this latest research, which is the importance of daily physical activity and maintaining a healthy weight to prevent future health problems.
