At TAT Health Solutions (TATHS), we believe that it’s never too late to improve your health—regardless of age or where you start. This spring, we proudly recognize Richard, age 85. He is a graduate of our National Diabetes Prevention Program (NDPP). His dedication and transformation continue to inspire fellow participants and our coaching team alike.
We’re pleased to offer this powerful video interview. It features TATHS Coach King and Richard. Richard is a graduate of our National Diabetes Prevention Program (NDPP). In only one year, Richard shed 38 pounds and reduced his A1c to normal levels, correcting his prediabetes diagnosis. During the chat, he discusses the important changes in his lifestyle he put in place. He also talks about the challenges he experienced. TATHS’ continued support was important to his success.

National Recognition from Emory University
Richard’s success was shared with Emory University’s Window to My World: Photovoice Project after he finished the NDPP. This is a national project that collects stories from lifestyle guides and people who are making real changes to avoid diabetes
We were thrilled to receive this response from the Emory Centers:
“Your contribution helps us better understand the personal and professional journeys of those delivering the National Diabetes Prevention Program and amplifies the vital work happening across the country to prevent or delay type 2 diabetes.”
— Temi Falae, Graduate Research Assistant, DTTAC at Emory University
Richard’s story may be soon featured in newsletters, learning events, and Emory’s updated Common Ground website, serving as an example of what’s possible through evidence-based lifestyle change.
📊 Why This Program Works—Especially for Older Adults
The National Diabetes Prevention Program (NDPP) has been shown to minimize the risk of getting type 2 diabetes and encourage healthy behaviors in all age groups. However, research reveal that the biggest influence occurs in elderly persons.
- ✅ 58% risk reduction for all adults
- ✅ 71% risk reduction for adults aged 60 and over
- ✅ Participants typically lose 5–7% of their body weight
Richard is now enrolled in our NDPP Maintenance Program, continuing to build on the success of his first year. His story is a reminder that positive change is possible—at any age.
